Sustainable Composite Materials and Manufacturing - SCMM
Opération d'importance stratégique FEDERThe ambition of the project is to create a Centre of excellence focused on the efficient development and transfer to the industry of the next generation of lightweight and sustainable composite materials, that will address the needs for the vehicles of the future in the automotive, rail, aeronautic, space and Urban Air Mobility sectors. In this framework, the LIST support the vision that sustainable and ultra-lightweight composite materials are key enablers for low-carbon towards net Zero-Emission mobility applications.
The objective of the Sustainable Composite Materials and Manufacturing - Innovation Center (SCMM) is to strengthen and further develop the LIST portfolio of high added-value materials technologies, enabling the next generation of sustainable and lightweight composite structures.
Since years, the LIST has built a strong background of key generic technologies that can serve as building blocks for low carbon footprint composite materials: bio-based polymers, (natural) fibre treatment, smart coatings, innovative approaches and technologies for efficient assembling/disassembling, manufacturing approaches for hybrid composite structures and multi-scale/multi-physics modelling of composite materials.
These enabling technologies will be further developed to tackle the specific materials challenges in the transportation sector towards zero-emission mobility solutions.
SCMM will contribute into a significant decarbonization of societies while addressing the challenges related to the transport sector while also taking into account the transformation of societies towards larger urbanization.
